ICRT Japan learning model

The Introduction to Clinica Research Training–Japan program curriculum will deliver introductory training in clinical research.  The program consists of online lectures, live interactive webinar sessions and two four-day workshops in Okinawa, Japan. Content includes epidemiology, biostatistics, programming in stata, Study design, ethical issues, scientific communication, clinical Trials and Research Leadership concepts.

Workshops

Workshops focus on accelerating the development of high-yield clinical research skills via hands-on experience. The program helps students build a substantial skill set through intensive team-based and individual workshop exercises. Essential workshop elements include research question development and study design, practical programming training in statistical software using real-life data sets and critical methodological assessment of the clinical research literature. In addition, the program includes training in mentorship, academic career development and research program leadership. The workshops take place in a learning environment that encourages collaboration and collegial networking with faculty and other students. 

The curriculum begins and ends with two-intensive, four-day, in-person workshops.

Attendance at the workshops is mandatory.

Teamwork

Teams work together on assignments throughout the duration of the program. The team assignments are designed to promote collaboration and interaction during and between workshops. At the start of the program, students will be randomly allocated to teams. All members of the team are required to contribute to team assignments and present their work to faculty.

All students will be expected to complete assignments and quizzes which will be graded as “pass” or “fail.”
