Dr. Paul Winyard is Professor of Paediatric Education at the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Nephrology at Great Ormond Hospital and Director of both the BSc and MSc in Paediatrics and Child Health. Paul won a scholarship to study Medicine in Cambridge (pre-clinical), then switched to Oxford (clinical), specializing in Paediatrics at several London Hospitals and Oxford, with 6 months as an exchange resident at Duke University and a year at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. His current clinical and research practice focuses on pre- and postnatal renal malformations and polycystic kidney diseases. Over the last ten years, Paul developed the largest Paediatric Academic training programme in the UK, completely reorganized the MSc in Paediatrics and Child Health and instigated the first dedicated Paediatric BSc in the UK. He has won numerous local and national prizes for research and teaching and is committed to developing the next generation of Academic Paediatricians. Furthering this in a senior role, Paul was elected as President of the Academic Paediatrics Association (Great Britain & Ireland) in Spring 2018 and is developing an ‘Academic Toolkit’ to encourage more trainees to engage in research.
