Dr. Jonathan Adler is a professor of Psychology at Olin College of Engineering, a visiting associate professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and the chief academic officer of Health Story Collaborative, a Cambridge-based non-profit that works with medical patients to help them tell the story of their experiences with illness and healing. Professor Adler’s mixed-methods research focuses on identity development in the wake of challenging life experiences. He is currently working on a project focused on identity development among people who acquire major physical disabilities. He serves as editor of the scholarly journal Personality and Social Psychology Review and an associate editor at Collabra: Psychology. His research has been covered by major media outlets including: the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Boston Globe, National Public Radio, The Atlantic, The BBC, and The Today Show.  He has written Op-Eds for outlets including The New Yorker, Newsweek, and The Conversation.  He is also a theater director and playwright and his play Reverse Transcription (co-written with Jim Petosa) premiered Off-Broadway at The Atlantic Theater Company’s Stage Two in July 2022.
