Bernard Chang, MD, MMSc

Advisory Dean and Director of the Francis Weld Peabody Society and an Associate Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School

Dr. Bernard Chang is the Advisory Dean and Director of the Francis Weld Peabody Society and an Associate Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School (HMS).  He chairs the preclerkship curricular committee for the HMS Pathways curriculum and for more than ten years directed the required preclerkship neuroscience course.  He has received multiple teaching awards, including the S. Robert Stone Award, the Donald O’Hara Faculty Prize, and the HMS Class of 2015 Award for Best Preclinical Instructor.  

In his hospital role, Dr. Chang serves as the Chief of the Division of Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology in the Department of Neurology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), where he maintains an active clinical practice and conducts research on developmental brain malformations.

He graduated from Harvard College and the New York University School of Medicine and pursued his neurology residency training at the Harvard – BIDMC – Boston Children’s Hospital program.  He then completed a fellowship in epilepsy and electroencephalography at BIDMC and received a Master of Medical Science degree from HMS.
