Dr. Gary Curhan is a member of the Channing Division of Network Medicine and the Renal Division at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He is Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Professor of Epidemiology at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Major active research interests include the epidemiology of nephrolithiasis, risk factors for renal function decline, epidemiology of hearing loss, novel risk factors for primary hyperparathyroidism, health effects of analgesic use, novel risk factors for hypertension, primary aldosteronism and adverse outcomes, epidemiology of gout, onconephrology, and risk factors for herpes zoster. Risk factors being explored include dietary intake, 24-hour urine composition, urine and blood biomarkers, and genetic factors. Dr. Curhan spends the majority of his time on these research activities and the remainder of his time on mentoring and teaching. He is the Editor-in-Chief emeritus of the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (CJASN). He has served on national and international committees.
