Susan Gilroy, PhD

Librarian, Undergraduate Writing Programs, Harvard College

Dr. Susan Gilroy is the Librarian for Undergraduate Writing Programs at Harvard College. In that role, she works closely with preceptors and first-year students in Expository Writing. She is also a Research Librarian, and in that capacity, serves as the library's "public face" – or "library liaison" -- to three, interdisciplinary programs: the Committee on Degrees in Social Studies, Studies of Women, Gender and Sexuality and African and African American Studies. She says the best – most rewarding and wonderfully challenging part of her job – is helping students learn to problem solve, develop good information-seeking strategies, and succeed at academic research.

She has a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Simmons University in Boston and a Ph.D. in English Literature from Vanderbilt University.
