Martina McGrath, MB, BCH, FASN, FRCPI

Transplant Nephrologist and Medical Director of Live Kidney Donation at Brigham and Women’s Hospital

Dr. Martina McGrath is a transplant nephrologist and Medical Director of Live Kidney Donation at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She completed her medical degree at University College Cork, in Ireland. Upon completing her early medical training in Ireland, came to the US for nephrology fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, and later pursued a research fellowship in transplantation immunology.

She is an active physician scientist whose research interests include targeting costimulatory pathways in alloimmunity and studying the role of ischemia reperfusion injury in transplant rejection. 

Dr. McGrath also has roles in education across several disciplines, including teaching medical students, acting as course director of the T2T China program, and is the medical editor of the popular Trends in Medicine blog for Harvard Medical School’s CME online program.
