Daniela Lamas, MD

Dr. Daniela J. Lamasis a pulmonary and critical care physician at Brigham & Women's Hospital, instructor in medicine at Harvard Medical School and associate faculty at Ariadne Labs, where she works with the Serious Illness Care Program. Her clinical and research areas of focus are in long-term critical care survivorship, palliative care in the ICU and decision-making surrounding chronic critical illness. She is a 2020 New America Fellow. 

Dr. Lamas is also a writer and former Miami Herald reporter, who has been published in The Atlantic, New Yorker (online) and the Boston Globe. She is most frequently published in The New York Times. Additionally, Dr. Lamas is working as a staff writer for the medical TV drama, “The Resident.”

Her first book, You Can Stop Humming Now: A Doctor's Stories of Life, Death, and In Between, was published by Little, Brown in March 2018. In it, she explores what life is like for patients kept alive by modern medical technology. She is currently working on a second book of behind-the-scenes hospital stories.
