Dr. Douglas Smink is the Chief of Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital and the Associate Chair of Education at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.  He is an associate professor in surgery at Harvard Medical School and practices minimally invasive general surgery at both Brigham and Women’s and Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospitals.

Dr. Smink is also the former program director of the general surgery residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.  He serves as the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Surgical Education and as a member of the editorial board of SCORE (the Surgical Council on Resident Education). 

Dr. Smink’s research focuses on resident and faculty education through simulation, team training and coaching.  He is the co-PI on an NIH grant, the Provider Awareness and Cultural dexterity Toolkit for Surgeons (PACTS) to improve surgeon communication with culturally diverse patients.  In addition, he is the co-PI for the Surgical Coaching for Operative Performance Enhancement (SCOPE) Program, where he helps lead a program of peer-coaching among surgeons.
