Patricia H. Folcarelli RN, MA, PhD, is the Vice President for Health Care Quality at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Lecturer on Medicine at Harvard Medical School. In her VP role, Dr. Folcarelli is responsible for the Patient Safety, Risk Management, Patient Relations, Performance Assessment and Regulatory Compliance, Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology and Emergency Management departments of the hospital.   Pat coordinates the Communication, Apology and Resolution (CARe) process at BIDMC.  Her research activity includes advancing the practice of respect in healthcare, evaluating the impact of CARe Programs, and understanding how we should measure the safety of care. She has been a collaborator on work to evaluate the use of a patient safety reporting tool in OpenNotes, as well as efforts to reduce the risk of harm to ICU patients.  Dr. Folcarelli serves on the board of the Massachusetts Coalition for the Prevention of Medical Errors, and on the Quality and Safety board for Mercy, a health system in St. Louis.  She is also board chair for (MITSS) -Medically Induced Trauma Support Services, and President of the Massachusetts Society for Healthcare Risk Management.
