Randall King

Randall King, MD, PhD

Harry C. McKenzie Professor of Cell Biology at Harvard Medical School

Dr. Randall King received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Carleton College, a PhD in Biochemistry from UCSF, and his MD from Harvard Medical School. Dr. King investigates the role of ubiquitin-dependent proteolysis in the control of cell division.  His work at the interface of chemistry and biology has identified small molecules that target the Anaphase-Promoting Complex and proteasome-associated deubiquitinating enzymes. His lab is interested in the development of these molecules for treatment of cancer and neurodegenerative disease and he has helped found several biotechnology companies in these areas.

In education, Dr. King helped lead the design and implementation of the new medical school curriculum called Pathways. He currently serves as the course director for Foundations, the first basic science course in the Pathways curriculum, which integrates science teaching across ten different disciplines. He co-directs teaching of cell biology and biochemistry, pharmacology, and cancer biology in Foundations. He also co-directs an Advanced Integrated Science Course in Cancer Biology in the third year of the Pathways curriculum.
