Dr.Daniel Navarini

Dr. Daniel Navarini is a gastrointestinal surgeon and professor of medicine and surgery in Brazil at the University of Passo Fundo. Navarini earned a degree in Medicine from the Federal University of Pelotas and his Master’s in Surgical Sciences and PhD in Surgery from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. Dr. Navarini now specializes in treating gastrointestinal cancer and related disease. He recently completed Harvard Medical School’s Surgical Leadership Program in March 2023.

Global Network of Surgeons:

Passionate about collaborative learning, Navarini knew that Harvard Medical School’s Surgical Leadership Program would provide a connection to a diverse group of medical professionals from across the world. Navarini’s 2023 cohort included over 125 surgeons representing 39 countries in all surgical specialties. He added, “As a surgeon and a medical professor, I’ve had the opportunity to meet with other surgeons from other countries across medical fields…and this new network will be a reality for a long time.” He noted that meeting his cohort and peer-to-peer learning highlights his experience at Harvard.

Delivering Results:

Through the surgical leadership program, Dr. Navarini pointed out that participants take away a new set of skills that will “increase results in our organizations, in our hospitals, and our professional life.” He learned to be a better leader and improve his self-learning through three in-person workshops, online sessions and webinars, team presentations, and an individual capstone project. No matter the size or budget of the organization, he learned that the most important approach is to invest in people.

The Harvard Difference:

The Surgical Leadership program draws from best practices across Harvard Medical School and its teaching hospitals, Harvard Business School, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and Harvard Kennedy School. “As a professor of medicine, we are learning new and different methodologies here through the Surgical Leadership Program…and Harvard is an example in medical education. This course allows us to evolve our institutions to follow the Harvard example.”
